How long does it take for Armour thyroid to work?
Sarah Jane asked:
I’ve been taking armour thyroid for 3 months. I started at 30mg, then 60, and now 90mg and have had no change. I have had severe, constant fatigue, joint pain, and heart palpitations for the past 10 months. None of the doctors I’ve been to know whats going on. All the test I’ve done have come back inconclusive. The only reason I’m take Armour is because my sister (and deceased grandmother) has hypothyroidism. Does anybody have a clue or a suggestion or something. I’m running out of hope.

Problems with the thyroid can take weeks, even months to become normal again. You must take the medicine every day in order for it to work. Have your doctors ran the tests to prove you are having thyroid problems? If not do so. Your best bet is to see an endocrinologist.
Excuse me?? I don’t understand. You are taking prescription replacement thyroid hormones because your SISTER has a thyroid disease?? How does that help anyone? Your sister needs to be on medication, not you! You can’t help her by taking her medication for her.
Besides, this is both illegal and incredibly dangerous. No wonder you are having heart palpitations. Do not take prescriptions that are not prescribed to you. Especially one like this that can give you heart palpitations!
I have more questions than answers. Like where is your joint pain? Is it always in the same place or does it move around? Do you sometimes have trouble thinking & remembering things? If these are interesting questions to you, email me & we will talk about it. Also, I am sure that you are not taking the Armour Thyroid on your own. I understand perfectly that your dr prescribed it b/c he thinks that you may have a subclinical hypothyroidism based on your family history.
Are you always testing in the morning? Also, Armour is adjusted by free t4 and free t3, not TSH. You test first thing in the morning, then take your am dosage of Armour, otherwise testing results will be off and you will probably be on too low of a dosage. Related links below
I’m confused here. Did a Doctor actually prescribe this medication for you, or are you taking your sisters Armour? You definitely need to see an Endocronologist for any problems with your thyroid. Your symptoms all seem to suggest thyroid disease, but unless you’ve been diagnosed you need to call and make an appointment immediately.
